Using the correct format
There are many acceptable formats; you must choose the one the one that suits your needs.
I find the combination format works best for me. That format combines word-for-word in the introduction and the conclusion with adlib phrasing in the impact statement and the body. This format assures you achieve maximum impact in the opening and conclusion and that you stress benefit or impact or effect on the audience and that you cover all the points you want to make in the body. The use word-for-word in the opening and closing assures that you achieve maximum impact at those points and be sure to "call for action" in the close. A short snappy opening (maximum 36 words) and closing are best for effect. Remember a call to action is mandatory in most presentations whether physical or mental. In this format the impact statement or statement of benefit precedes the body and can be laid out in point form from which you adlib. The reason you place the benefit or impact statement before the body is to conform to the audiences need to see benefit or effect so that they will pay closer attention to the body of the speech. The text in the body of the speech is laid out in point form using only short words and phrases rather than writing it out in full. This allows you to adlib and sounds more convincing than "reading" your speech.
You then include any supporting facts in the body also in point form. With proper rehearsal using this format you will sound natural and be able to expand your speech to suit the time available. In concluding the speech remember a call to action is mandatory whether physical or a mental commitment.
