Preparation, "Where the value is"

Changing your perception

As our lifestyles and our approach to work and it's impact on us changes, those who communicate with others change their perception of the process of accomplishing successful outcomes.   Because of the increasing speed of everyday life the methods used to accomplish what we do must be updated.   Change has become the norm and yesterdays methods and procedures must be modified.   This means keeping an open mind to new methods is important.   In the past being "comfortable" with our methods and procedures was what we worked to attain.   Today we must examine and update to keep up.   An example of how fast things are moving, the Web Year is now seven weeks long.

Be prepared

That's a Scout & Guide motto that indicated that some how we should always "Be Prepared".   The emphasis was on the event not how we got there, You were somehow always be ready to succeed.   This was a method of indicating that we should always be ready to succeed or to spring into action and perform at the maximum efficiency.   This was a positive expectation but as tasks became more complex and expectations rose to meet the new challenges, somehow being prepared was not realistic.   People believed that if they just worked hard that somehow that was enough and would result in successful outcomes.   Just "Working Hard" is not sufficient one must "Work smart" in today's challenging environment.   This quantum leap in viewing how one succeeds at a task results in a change in how one goes about "the doing".   The past methods focused on results rather than on quality preparation.   As we understand conditioning and it's effect on possible future behavior a change has taken place in the way we view tasks.   Because tasks were less complex but still challenging we felt that preparation was not part of the task itself but somehow it took place outside the event, the event was where the real value was.
