Preparation, "Where the value is"
(Page Three)

For instance, in business the overemphasis of negative factors can lead to reducing certain commitments to the project such as resources may be cut back and the outcome will be influenced.   Take for instance an advertising campaign that requires a minimum exposure to succeed, if you were to cut back the production budget and then as a result reduce the exposure levels of the campaign then the possibility of failure has been increased by those actions.   This is what can happen when you "second guess" and consider failure as an option.   Some may say that that is just being realistic.   In fact you are deprogramming your success quotient and starting the process toward failure.   The hesitation that results increases your chances of failure.

REHEARSING "THE REAL EVENT" - The key to success

In the case of an interview, imagine the interviewer and rehearse both sides of the interview be sure to picture both yourself and the interviewer smiling and receptive as well as a positive outcome to the interview.   Remember to imagine in detail, it is important to succeed in your "mind's eye".   When rehearsing a speech or presentation always picture the audience smiling and being very receptive as well as yourself smiling and successful.   This "imagineering will help program you for success.   When you actually get up to make the presentation you will automatically be relaxed and comfortable because your mind will tell you succeeded before and this occasion will be the same.   After you have rehearsed the presentation many times the "real event" becomes anticlimactic.   It's all about building self-confidence in a positive outcome and ignoring the possibility of failure.   It is important to attempt and "learn from your mistakes" but focussing on your mistakes can result in replicating them.   Clear your mind and concentrate on what you do right and you will replicate your successes.   That's why they say in human relations always concentrate on another person's good points and that will result in them acting in a more positive way for they will attempt to act up to your positive view of them.   A realistic but positive view of your performance will result in success.
